TOPIC: IDOLATRY FORBIDDEN
TEXT: “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry” (1Corinthians 10:14).
The simplest definition of idolatry is the, “worship of idols.” An idol is a representation of a god which is an object of worship. Some people worship images of human beings, animals, birds, fishes and other creatures. Others worship elements such as the sun, moon, and stars. God is a jealous God and cannot accept any rival. Once you are born again the song of Frances Ridley H. becomes your vow: “Take my life, and let it be consecrated Lord to thee. Take my moments and my days. Let them flow in ceaseless praise.”
Note that extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone is idolatry. There is current widespread occultism across the globe which is idolatry. The commandment against idolatry is the first in the Ten Commandments and is still relevant in Christendom today. If you have anything else in which you place your trust, repent today and allow Jesus into your heart and make Him your Lord and Saviour. That is your only hope of escaping the eternal Lake of fire. For Christian youths, nothing must attract you to idol worship.
CHALLENGE: Reject idol worship, reject occultism
QUOTE: God is jealous God and cannot accept rivals.
