TOPIC: CHRISTIAN CONTENTMENT
TEXT: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Philippians 4:11).
Johnson Oatman in 1897 composed the popular Christina hymn, “Count Your Blessings.” The age-long inspiring song not only teaches Christian to be thankful and grateful to God for His goodness and manifold blessings upon them, but also admonishes them to be contented with what they are and what they have. Contentment will make us to appreciate God in all conditions.
Apostle Paul was a lawyer but he dropped his pride to preach the gospel without being paid. Many times he lacked what to eat. He was constantly persecuted and abandoned. He was even making tents to make ends meet without minding whether his former colleagues among the Pharisees were living better. Paul did not compare himself with them. He was satisfied with what God had for him. Many youths compare themselves with their peers from rich homes. They become covetous and resort to all sorts of crimes. Lack of contentment has led many youths into prison and hell like Judas Iscariot. Are you contented with what your parents can provide for you? Are you grateful to God for what you have?
CHALLENGE: Lack of contentment leads to sorrow.
QUOTE: Are you grateful to God for what you have?
PRAYER: Father, give me a grateful heart, in Jesus name.
