Former president and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has halted his six-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region after the demise of Ex. President and founder of his party,Jerry John Rawlings.

Mr. Mahama announced his suspension in Obuasi after he received a phone call in connection with the death  Ex. President Rawlings. He described the Ex President as an “iconic leader” hence himself (Mahama) and the NDC needed time to mourn as well as celebrate his legacies.

“What has happened makes it impossible for us to continue with the campaign so we will return to Accra immediately and return at a later date,” he said.

“What we are hearing is indeed sad but we must remain strong,” he added.
