THE STETHOSCOPE-EPISODE-9 by Deborah Nwaeke

MY CLINICAL ROTATION DIARY-9

Day 6

Today went pretty well. It was “clinics” today. The consultant in my team, Dr Philips, was present. I learnt he had been on leave, and only just returned.  I like him. He has a fatherly aura, and is a good doctor. I’m not sure how I know that, but that was my first impression of him.

He gave us (together with other student colleagues of mine) the file of a patient to “clerk”, and we spent about an hour ‘clerking’ JJC *rolls eyes*.  Or maybe it shows we really care for our patient.

We worked with the rest of the team members, discussing the conditions of the other patients they “clerked”.

The consultant later examined our patient. He listened to our case presentation of the patient and asked us questions to examine our level of knowledge of the disease.

He gave answers to the questions we couldn’t, and  explained them to us.

We went on ward round afterwards to check up on patients who had been previously admitted.

The day was a long one. I left the hospital at about 5pm.

Day 8

Yesterday wasn’t so busy. We went on ward rounds and endedat about 1:00pm. Like every other day, we were asked questions depending on the condition of the patient being attended to.

Today is for surgeries:

Today’s activities began at about 9:00am. The surgeries we participated (passively) include a modified total mastectomyand an inguinal hernia repair.

NB: Sorry I lost data for days four and five.

*JJC is an acronym for “Jolly just come” meaning a newbie.

watch out for Episode 10.
