CLINICAL ROTATION DIARY-3

I waited and waited for the HoD. Some people, more like secretaries and assistants to the HoD, were of the opinion that I return tomorrow, since he wasn’t still on seat (as at 02:00pm). A woman in the office decided to get in touch with another doctor (chief resident I guess) who could assign me to a team.

At the chief resident’s office…

After reading the letter, he asked what school I attended. I figured he wouldn’t know the school if I mentioned the name to him, since it’s a school abroad, and not exactly popular. So instead of trying to explain the questions I felt would come after, I simply said to him “not here”. Mind you, I said that politely and in all sincerity. But that was a mistake, because his voice suddenly went up sayingI didn’t say where. I asked a simple question, or is it not a school?” Wrong button, girl.

I calmly replied, stating the name of my school. Then he asked, “where?”, and I replied.

Oh my days!

He signed my letter and told me where to go to. I felt good; at least something had been achieved.

I went searching for the unit I was referred to, but the direction I got on getting to the department sent me back to the same office where my letter was signed. It’s either I made a mistake or they (don’t ask me who, figure that out) made a mistake.

Well, I’ll find out tomorrow because this is how far I can sanely go today.

All I want to do is get assigned to a team to begin my rotation. Tell me who I’ll be attached to, who I’m to go on ward rounds with, and I’ll scrub in and be out your doors.  That’s all!

Why can’t life just be easier?
