The typhoid vaccine, have been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), of which will be used in a two-week immunisation process in southern Sindh province aimed at eradicating it.
This approval and introduction of the vaccine has placed Pakistan first globally following an ongoing outbreak of a drug-resistant strain of the potentially fatal disease.
This vaccine was given to the Pakistani government free of charge by Gavi, to help them embark on the two-week campaign in Sindh, aimed at its complete eradication.
Statistically, since 2017, Sindh is where most of Pakistan’s 10,000 cases of typhoid have been recorded. To add to the statistics, there were in total 63% of the typhoid cases of which 70% of the fatalities were mostly children.
Good initiative and we hope for the best for Pakistan.
